We find that students will succeed when family therapy is combined with our program. We need these young men to understand how to connect and relate to their family members, which can be a problem for both the young men and the parents. Our goal is to help the students learn enough that they will be able to return home to their families ready to take on new challenges together. We want the entire family to be healthy and thriving together, with support of friends and their community. Family therapy is designed to include sessions with the young man and his parents or guardian, and some sessions without the student and just the parents. We need to understand both the goals of the student and the parents in order to create a unique patient treatment program for the young man that will work.
Once the student is admitted, parents or guardians will need to complete a Family Questionnaire to collect vital information about the client as well as the family. We need to understand the dynamic the student is coming from, and understand various methods of discipline that have been used in the past along with expectations from the family on the student. We will maintain contact with the family throughout the duration of the student’s treatment to keep working toward unified goals and a successful outcome.
