One of the largest challenges at-risk youth face is learning how to go back into the world after they leave Canyon River Ranch. We have an effective transition readiness program designed to give students the opportunity to take the skills and abilities they have learned and apply them to the real world. Students learn how to become valuable members in their community, family, and many find obtaining employment is easier with their new skills. We find that our program effectively prepares students to move on with an independent living situation or return to their home environment with a positive outlook.
Many of the students start without life skills. As they stay at Canyon River Ranch, we help to teach them valuable life skills. We use moral reasoning to help students learn how to manage a variety of difficult situations, which could cause them stress. We also help them learn social interactions with social events to the mall, community-sponsored programs, and more.
Our transition program is designed to help students learn how to live independently or learn how to live with their family once again. We have staff members assigned to work directly with the youth in the transition readiness group to ensure they have the skills needed to move back into the real world. We want the students to practice some of these skills without the need for direct supervision. Our advisors will work with them on these skills, and offer help with enrolling in college, technical training programs, and even finding affordable housing if needed. We look for career opportunities and help many of our students find activities and volunteer opportunities that will help them live a happier, fulfilled life.
